Boy Scouts, Making A Difference

Boy Scouts of Connecticut has teamed up with the Caribbean Resource Center at the Center for Urban Research, Education and Training in offering the Boy Scout program.
Organizers expect the program will open up opportunities for after-school tutoring and mentoring—all providing opportunities for academic excellence and for future leadership, helping boys to feel good about themselves, improving their study skills, succeeding in school, enhancing their sense of civic responsibility, reinforcing etiquette and becoming involved in projects that contribute to their own community.
According to Scout Master Dean Rhoden, “the Boy Scout Program encourages young people to discover themselves and to connect with others and make the world a better place. The training the boys receive is linked with their behavior at home. The values they learn will enhance their life even into adulthood. Leaving home they will know how to conduct themselves, how to behave in restaurants and all public places, learning to respect others.”
The children who are well disciplined and behave respectfully are the ones who succeed in school and in life. Parents have the responsibility to teach their children good behavior and good citizenship at a young age. The Boy Scout Program complements these values taught at home. According to research findings, students’ level of discipline and self-control are positively associated with their academic performance. The Boy Scout Program molds young lives and builds leadership from very early.
